Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) leader Mama Kandeh reminded security forces that their sacred duty is to protect lives and properties of Gambians not to threaten, torture or kill them.
“You are here to protect the lives and properties of Gambians but not to threaten, torture or kill us,” he said.
He advised them not to allow to be used to carry out orders that are against the laws of The Gambia and the very duties they are bound to. Kandeh reminded that such actions would be regrettable.
The GDC has pledged to provide security officials and their families with new housing schemes to live dignified lives including the building of a new medical facility.
“If we are elected into office, your days of cattling raring, farming will be no more. We have a plan to enhance your plight and provide you with needed facilities and service,” the GDC presidential hopeful said.
President Jammeh has used Gambian security officers especially those in the military as workers in his farms, guard his properties and businesses, and rare his animals across the nation.
Kandeh said the nation and its peoples’ dignity must be restored and defended, promising his administration will carry out its functions within the parameters of the laws, where security forces will not be used to intimidate opponents.
