At least five people were injured after terrestrial rains caused building and fences to collapse mostly in the Kombo East District of the West Coast Region, Regional Disaster Relief officials said.
At least 587 families and more than 377 people have been displaced. No deaths were reported but many properties were damaged and lost, according to Disaster Coordinator Binta Sey Jadama said on Tuesday.
‘’Some families are without any food as I am speaking to you more especially in the Jiborroh Kuta area, where most of the affected families have lost all their foodstuffs and other precious belongings,’’ she said.
Gambian authorities have been advised of the situation and officials said support will be rendered to the victims.
Some other families and businesses in Kombo Central, Kombo North, Kombo South and Foni Berefet Districts were also caught in the floods.
The Kombo Central parliamentarian, Buba Ayi Sanneh said he will put pursue all measure to have the welfare and plight of the victims addressed.
