State prosecutors were left in limbo after a witness they brought in to testify against senior opposition official Tina Faal denied seeing the former parliamentarian removing aircraft parts.
Omar Njie, the prosecution witness said in court he has never seen Ms. Faal removing parts of a Boeing 727 at the Banjul International Airport in Yundum.
The state witness’s denial of seeing Faal committing theft has left the case in peril for the prosecutors.
Faal’s trial is said to be politically motivated after she left the ruling APRC to support a breakaway new opposition party led by a former fellow APRC parliamentarian Mama Kandeh.
She is accused of colluding with her former husband Babanding Sisohore to sell parts of a Boeing aircraft belonging to the multi-millionaires Air Dabia Airlines to Alhagie Omar Keita.
Gambian prosecutors said they were trying to obtain money by false pretense and that the aircrafts are properties of an Irish company, O’ Corporation.
Faal who was granted bail was arrested for a second time in August from her home and was again freed by the courts last week on bail. Her lawyers charged that her rights are being violated.
According to criminal complaint documents, Faal is also facing theft and fraud charges.
