A Gambian lawmaker has refused to return to Banjul after attending a conference for legislators in Washington, according to parliamentary documents seen by SMBC.
National Assembly documents authorizing withholding of his salary stated that Member of Parliament Hon. Demba B.T, Sambou (Independent – Niani Constituency) in the country’s central region has not returned with his colleagues who had arrived since August 23.
The Speaker of the National Assembly Abdoulie Bojang who is currently in Saudi Arabia has been notified, parliamentary sources said.
A letter dated August 29 has been sent to the country’s president briefing him on the situation. A notice was also sent to the Inspector General of Police, National Intelligence Agency, Solicitor General and the Accountant General’s office.

Hon. Sambou attended the conference together with Hon. Ebrima Solo Jammeh. Pictures of Mr. Sambou showed him standing in front of an interstate busline – Mega Bus on August 11 and a visit to the One World Trade Center in New York on August 19.
The National Assembly said it is yet to receive any communication from Hon. Sambou and it says they have taken the necessary precautionary measures, pending further development and information.
