A tanker carrying 20,000 liters of fuel has caused a spill around the Banjul International Airport after colliding with a pick-up truck in Yundum, disaster management officials confirmed.
There were no causalities, according to local law enforcement officials but drivers of both vehicles had minor bruises and injuries.
Eye witnesses said that tanker summersaulted after colliding with the pick-up truck.
Lt. Col. Alhagie Sanneh of the National Disaster Management Agency said his team is doing all they can to contain the spill and avoid hazardous damage to the environment.
The West Coast Region Governor’s office has set up a task force to assess damages and investigate the cause of the accident, which would also involve the National Environment Agency.
Two separate accidents this month has claimed at least nine lives in Kombo Busumbala and Jarra Jenoi. They were both caused by speeding drivers, according to the police.
