Family left homeless after house fire seeks help

A 5am fire left the Dandeh Njie family in Banjul homeless after it engulfed all of its properties worth an estimated D200,000. It took firefighters several hours before containing the inferno and now the family is appealing for assistance.

“Everything is gone. Nothing has been left,” said 70-year old Aja Emily Njie.

No deaths or injuries were reported and the fire department is yet to release its report to ascertain the cause.

Eyewitnesses said occupants of seven apartment home were seen running out of the compound before the fire department arrived.

Neighbors joined in to help put out the fire and take people to safety.

“We thank everyone for helping. The neighbors saved us and helped us a lot,” said Njie’s daughter Ndey Sarr.

The Lord Mayor of Banjul Alhagie Aboudoulie Bah visited the site and has promised help.
