Two arrested, charged for vehicular homicide in Brikama

Gambia policeProsecutors in Brikama have arraigned two men at the local magistrate court for vehicular homicide and negligence after deaths were reported in separate crashes.

Pa Modou Khan, a driver was said to have been speeding through a neighborhood, hitting and killing Morro Fatty on Sunday, according to court documents.

A separate criminal complaint said Matarr Baldeh was also driving recklessly killing Bekai Janneh in mid-October.

Judge Isatou Janneh released the men on a GMD75,000 bail (US$1,875.00) after prosecutors asked for an adjournment to consult with the Attorney General’s office.

Vehicle accident reports have increased over the past three months in the Kombos with at least 15 deaths reported within the last 60 days. In nearly all of the cases, the police have sighted over speeding as a cause.
