U.S. Ambassador to The Gambia says First Lady Jammeh is “setting a wonderful example”

The Ambassador of the United States of America to The Gambia Patricia Alsup told reporters that The Gambia’s First Lady Zineb Jammeh is setting a wonderful example after watching a movie together, having lunch with the first lady and Gambian international musician Sona Jobarteh.

“I think the First Lady is setting a wonderful example of giving, of a spirit of volunteerism and I think it’s a wonderful example to set, and so I wanted to congratulate her on that,” says Alsup.

Ambassador Alsup, however, said she and First Lady Jammeh have not set any definite agendas but says they both want improvements in health, education and women’s empowerment. Alsup believes she can collaborate with Mrs. Jammeh.

Alsup was one of the first lady’s guests at her fundraising gala for the foundation Operation Save the Children. A top aide to the first lady said last week Jordanian princess and goodwill ambassador pledged to donate at least half a million dollars to the foundation.

U.S. Ambassador Alsup has been on a tour of The Gambia and visited many places including U.S. funded projects and the country’s only public boarding school, Armitage.
