Senegalese man commits suicide in Fajara

A Senegalese national from its southern Casamance region has committed suicide after apparently setting himself on fire in the Kanifing neighborhood of Fajara.

Babucarr Ceesay, 47, was taken to the Serrekunda General Hospital where he was pronounced dead due to the burns.

No motive could be found.

Witnesses saw smoke coming from his apartment and they found Mr. Ceesay burnt and unrecognized.

His neighbors said he had gone to the mosque earlier that morning before the incident and described him as a man that kept to himself.

Ceesay had traveled to the Gambia some three years ago and does not have an immediate family or relative there. Police are currently investigating the matter.
