Former Vice President Saihou Sabally has returned to the Gambia after being holed up in neighboring Senegal for 22 years. Sabally went into exile after a military coup ousted the Jawara government.
Tens of people welcomed the former VP at the Banjul International Airport.
Gambia has a new government after former leader Yahya Jammeh was ousted in the polls. Jammeh was forced into exile last month and now in Equatorial Guinea with his family.
Jammeh, a former bodyguard to President Dawda Jawara ousted the PPP in a coup that pushed Sabally to flee.
Sabally is running a successful business in Senegal and may not be taking a job in the new government.
He was instrumental in calling on former President Dawada Jawara to reconsider his planned resignation from the Presidency back in the 90s.
Jawara had wanted to leave the presidency after his term expires, but he was prevailed upon to stay in office.
