Court grants bail to six former Kanilai farms associates

At least six former workers of employee’s of the Kanilai Farms were granted bail by a court in Brikama, West Coast Region.

Momodou Bah, Baraham Faal, Ngague Jallow, Babucarr Cham, Ousainou Jallow and Omar Cham are accused of stealing three bulls from the farm by Major Alieu Sowe.

Sowe has been reportedly dismissed from the army by President Adama Barrow, who defeated Kanilai Farm owner, former President Yahya Jammeh in last year’s presidential elections.

Sowe is still providing security for Jammeh’s properties and farms with the help of vigilante’s from Jammeh’s home village, Kanilai.

The six men were granted bail by Magistrate A.R. Bah at D15,000 with two Gambian sureties. They pleaded not guilty.

Kanilai is a village in southern Gambia, near the border with Senegal. Jammeh was born in this village and expanded it after coming to power. It is now home to an abandoned presidential palace, a wrestling arena, a luxury hotel, Gambia’s biggest farm and a game park.
