Gambian authorities are on the hunt for a man suspected of raping multiple women near Lamin, in the Kombo North District of the West African state.
Authorities believe at least three rape reports, one of which led to the death of an 8-year-old are linked. The suspect has not been identified.
Investigations are on as the police seek to identify and capture the suspect. They are urging anyone with information to come forward.
A girl was raped and strangled. She had serious injuries and bruises on her neck. Another was raped and her face slashed with a razor.
All the incidents happened around Lamin and Banjulinding and the cases were reported to the Banjulinding Police, who have handed the investigation to the serious crime unit.
People have expressed dismay at the surge in rape in the area and outraged by the death of the eight-year-old victim. Authorities have been urged to reinforce patrol in the area.
