West African authorities in the small nation of the Gambia have arrested a serial murderer accused of raping at least five women and killing a child.
Essa Jarjue, 22, a Senegalese citizen resident in Tobokoto outside the commercial city of Serrekunda has been charged with homicide, rape, and theft, according to the police.
Jarjue is accused of raping and strangling to death an eight-year-old girl in Kombo North, near Lamin, where two other victims slashed with blades.
Jarjue is said to have entered the room of the young girl through a window, covered her mouth with a blanket and sexually assaulted her.
He is also accused of killing a woman, Jankey Bojang in Faji Kunda, a neighborhood outside the Gambia’s capital, Banjul.
The two victims are now recovering from the hospital and receiving help from social service workers.
Gambia’s police have been on a hunt for Jarjue for two weeks. He was nabbed after attempting to assault another woman in the Kombo North District were patrol was increased.
