At least eight people have died and more than 40 others injured during a brawl that led to a stampede and a wall collapse at the Demba Diop stadium in Dakar.
A fight broke out between supporters of Stade de Mbour and Union Sportive Ouakam in the local FA cup finals and the police responded using tear gas.
Many people were trapped underneath the collapsed wall, eye witnesses say.
Fans were throwing stones and anything they could use as a weapon on one another.
Mbour scored in the first period of extra time to win 2-1, and violence broke out at the final whistle.
A spokesperson for Senegal’s President Macky Sall said parliamentary elections campaign will be suspended Sunday to mourn the dead.
It is the second of such incident in Africa this year. In February, 17 people were killed in a stampede match in Angola.
Authorities are vowing to prosecute and punish those found wanting to serve as a warning.
