Gambia: Bicycle accident leads to man’s hacking death

A man riding a bicycle was hacked to his death by an angry bystander after the victim accidentally lost his balance and hit the onlooker in the Gambian border town of Giboro.

Abdoulie Secka was rushed to the Brikama hospital, and doctors later transported him 40 minutes to Edward Francis Small Teaching hospital in the capital, Banjul.

Secka died of his wounds on Thursday afternoon, according to Giboro Police, who have arrested the suspect, Lamin Jadama.

Jadama got angry after Secka hit him with his bike. In vengeance, he grabbed a cutlass and lopped Secka on his arm. Secka was bleeding superfluously, witnesses say.

Police are trying to determine if there were any other motives for the hewing. Jadama may be facing manslaughter or murder charges pending the outcome of the findings.

He is currently charged with assault causing bodily harm and has not been remanded pending a formal appearance before a judge at the High Court in Gambia’s capital.
