A former Secretary General and Presidential Affairs Minister has called for ex-President Yahya Jammeh’s expulsion from the former ruling APRC party.
Momodou Sabally asked when the party will expel the former ruler, who is the main suspect in the alleged financial mismanagement of billions from the country.
According to Mr. Sabally, Jammeh expulsion “needs to be done if they [the APRC] want some segments of Gambia to take them seriously.”
Jammeh had expelled many of his former trusted aides and ministers from the APRC accusing them of abusing office, giving false information, corruption and economic crimes, and unruly behavior.
Sabally, a former senior executive member of the party and opposition leader, Mama Kandeh were among those that Jammeh kicked out of the party.
Sabally has since been an independent and apparently voted against Jammeh in last year’s election. He has been jailed and prosecuted by the former autocratic regime.
Many APRC supporters have jumped ship, shying away from being associated with the party that is now drowning in corruption and human rights abuse allegations.
