Suspect sought after for killing of Budung man apprehended

The Gambia Police Force have haunted down and arrested Lang Marong, who was wanted for the stabbing death of a man in Bundung believed to be in his twenties.

Marong, a native of Baddibu Alkali Kunda stabbed and killed Hamidou Gassama in his chest last week before fleeing. He was found hiding in a farm in Sukuta Nema.

The police are trying to establish the facts leading to the stabbing death of Mr. Gassama. Marong is yet to be charged with any crime and may be facing a judge as early as next week.

He is currently held at the Bundung Police and helping authorities with their investigation. He is believed to be in his twenties and the police said they had no previous records of him.

In fewer than six months, the police have arrested two men for the murder of a Senegalese-Ivorian girl and a saloon worker in the Kombo St. Mary’s area. They have been charged with the murder of the girls.

The Gambia is one of the safest countries in Africa but the recent reports in crimes have raised concerns about its status. Officials, however, say the country is safer than it has ever been. Security in the country is in the hands of regional troops.
